Annual Multi-Trip Insurance: Is It Worth It?
If you travel internationally more than two or three times a year, an annual multi-trip policy is usually cheaper than buying single-trip coverage each time — but the math depends on your actual travel pattern.
The rough break-even point
As a general rule, if you take three or more international trips a year, an annual plan often costs less in total than three separate single-trip policies — though exact numbers depend on destinations, trip lengths and your age.
What counts as a "trip" under these plans
Annual plans cap the maximum length of any single trip within the policy (commonly 30, 45 or 90 days per trip) — the annual coverage doesn't mean unlimited trip length, just unlimited number of trips within those per-trip caps. Confirm this cap matches your typical trip length.
What annual plans don't solve
If one trip each year is significantly longer than the per-trip cap (a 4-month sabbatical, for example), you may need a separate long-stay policy for that specific trip even if you have an annual plan for the rest of the year.
